The company was founded in 1859 in the town of Belper in Derbyshire by William Peter Adshead and in 1944 became known as Adshead Ratcliffe & Co Ltd. In 2017 the company became part of CARLISLE® CM, Europe’s leading waterproofing and sealing solutions provider for roofs, facades and buildings.

Arbo joint sealants such as the Arbomeric MP20 cures on exposure to moisture vapour to form a tough but elastic rubber. The Arbosil HM is also manufactured by Arbo and is available in a variety of colours. Other popular products include but are not limited to: sealants (silicone sealant, polymer sealant), Arbo cleaner, Arbo primer and the Arbo tooling sticks.
